Ardani Artists and New York City Center are proud to announce that the world renowned Kirov Ballet,

Makhar Vaziev, will be performing a wide range of works by the choreographers and artists who have made the Kirov one of the
world’s greatest ballet companies, as well as works by contemporary dance makers. The company’s rich classical
repertoire includes works by Marius Petipa,Michel Fokine and George Balanchine and more
modern works by William Forsythe. The Kirov Ballet will bring some of its most acclaimed repertory classics: Petipa’s
The Kingdom of Shadows from La Bayadere; Fokine’s Scheherazade and Chopiniana; Gorsky’s
The Grand Pas de Deux from Don Quixote; Balanchine’s Jewels ( Rubies) and Ballet
Imperial; as well as Forsythe’s Steptext.
It will be first appearance of the Kirov Ballet and Orchestra
at New York City Center, home to some of the country’s leading dance companies, including Alvin Ailey American Dance
Theater, American Ballet Theatre and Paul Taylor Dance Company. “We look forward to returning to New York City,”
said Mr. Gergiev, “and especially to our first season at New York City Center, which has a long history of presenting
world-class companies and choreographers, just like our home at the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg.” The historic
Kirov Ballet was founded in 1783 and is closely linked with the legacy of classical Russian ballet, and throughout
the centuries, the company has produced the world’s greatest dancers in ballet, including such legendary performers
as Anna Pavlova, Vaslav Nijinsky, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Natalia Makarova and many more. Under the artistic
direction of Valery Gergiev since 1988, the Kirov continues its tradition of discovering exceptional dancers: Uliana Lopatkina,
Diana Vishneva, Daria Pavlenko, Igor Zelensky, Igor Kolb, Andrian Fadeev, Danila Korsuntsev and Leonid Sarafanov will be part
of the 200-member company performing at City Center. Ardani Artists Management was founded in Moscow
by arts promoter Sergei Danilian in 1990, and entered the American market in 1994. The Company has brought to the U.S. some
of the best exponents of arts and culture from the former Soviet Union. In 1998, Ardani Artists introduced American audiences
to the Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg, Russia’s leading contemporary ballet company. Since 1998, the Eifman Ballet
has appeared regularly at New York City Center, and toured the U.S. on regular basis. Ardani Artists has also presented the
Bolshoi Ballet on a U.S. tour in 2002, and the Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet in 2003, 2005, and 2006 U.S. tours. In 2006, in collaboration
with the Orange County Performing Arts Center, the West Coast’s premier presenter of dance, Ardani Artists produced
the critically acclaimed “Kings of the Dance” and The Mariinsky Festival (Opera, Ballet, Orchestra) as part of
the Center’s 20 th Anniversary celebrations and opening of its new concert hall. Ardani Artists’ upcoming
projects include another co-production with OCPAC: “Diana Vishneva: Beauty in Motion,” Teatro alla Scala Ballet
Company U.S. tour and a “Kings of the Dance” tour in Russia. New York City Center has
long been known and beloved by New York audiences not only as one of the city's preeminent performing arts institutions but
also as an accessible and welcoming venue for dance. New York City Center is the New York home to some of the country’s
leading dance companies, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre and Paul Taylor Dance Company.
Continuing to fulfill its mission to make the arts accessible to the broadest possible audiences, in 2004 New York City Center
launched the acclaimed Fall for Dance Festival which, for $10 a ticket, annually celebrates the vitality and creativity of
dance today. In 2006, New York City Center and London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre created a partnership to
facilitate the exchange of innovative dance works and new commissions by up-and-coming and acclaimed choreographers and dance
companies, both in London and in New York City. In addition to its rich dance offerings, New York City Center also produces
the Tony®-honored Encores! musical theater series, and is the home of Manhattan Theatre Club, one of New York City’s

Dance Salad Festival is scheduled for April 5, 6 and 7, at 7:30 pm, Wortham Center,
Cullen Theater. Now celebrating the 12th anniversary season in Houston and 15th season since its inception in Brussels, Belgium,
Dance Salad Festival promises another gathering of world-class performers. Famous in their own countries, the dance companies
have won praise from critics and audiences wherever they have toured. Dance Salad Festival has presented dancers, choreographers
and companies from the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Dancers from the following companies have been confirmed for the 2007 Festival:
Compagnia Aterballetto (Reggio Emilia, Italy): Founded in 1979, Aterballetto has gained a strong reputation in their
native Italy and Europe, boasting a solid repertoire of works by well-known choreographers. Under the direction of Mauro Bigonzetti,
the company has prospered and toured with his original choreography. Cantata, set to folk music from southern Italy
and accompanied by four singers on stage, addresses the relations between the sexes in a highly vivid and nostalgic style.
WAM (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) set to music by Mozart and choreographed by Bigonzetti, is a glimpse into the life
of the composer and his quest for the heights of creative expression. Both pieces will make their US debut at Dance Salad
Festival. Lead dance critic, John Rockwell, writing in the New York Times end-of-the-year Dance Review (Sunday, December
24, 2006), singled out several choreographers to watch, including Mauro Bigonzetti’s “memorable” choreography
for the New York City Ballet’s Diamond Project as well as the “poetic” work of Alexei Ratmansky of the Bolshoi
Ballet (see below).
Bolshoi Ballet (Moscow, Russia): Russia's premier ballet company for more than 225 years, named Alexei Ratmansky
Artistic Director in 2004. He has worked extensively as a choreographer with more than 20 ballets to his credit. In this
Houston premiere, Ratmansky presents his own choreography, Middle Duet, set to the music of Part I of Yuri Khanin’s
Middle Symphony. In the New York Times end-of-the-year Dance Review, (see above), Claudia La Rocco proclaimed,
"Another small work that stole the show was Alexei Ratmansky's Middle Duet, performed at the New York City Ballet." She
described this ballet as a "sleek, sophisticated foray into sexual politics..." where "there is no room for throat-clearing."
In The Bulletin (Brussels, Belgium) Luisa Moffett remarks, "this choreography is an extraordinary expression of grief
over a doomed relationship, eloquent in its use of the woman’s limbs to convey her increasing despair." For Dance Salad
Festival, we will have the actual Bolshoi Soloists, hand-picked by Artistic Director Ratmansky. Performing this
acclaimed work will be Natalia Osipova, and Andrey Merkuriev, formerly of the Kirov Ballet. Soloist Osipova was
just featured in "25 to Watch" in Dance Magazine (January 2007). Margaret Wills states, "Natalia Osipova streaks
across the stage with over-the-top jetés...The 20-year-old's prodigious talent has sped her from corps to soloist at the Bolshoi
Ballet in under two years…In pure dance work she sparkles and spins, making tricky techniques look effortless and singling
herself out as someone to train your binoculars on."
La Compañia Nacional de Danza (Mexico City, Mexico): This outstanding dance company will be presenting several US
premieres at the 2007 Dance Salad Festival. Selections from Carmen, choreographed by Alberto Alonso with music from
Suite de Rodion Shchedrin, based on the original Carmen music by George Bizet, will captivate audiences. Additionally,
the company will be premiering the beautiful pas de deux, Sobre Los Techos de la Luna, choreographed by Jaime Camarena.
El Viaje a la Luna takes audiences on a surrealistic and nostalgic ride to the moon, utilizing pop culture graphics.
Based on the 1902 French film by Georges Melies in his version of the Jules Verne’s story, A Trip to the Moon,
features a rocket careening into space and poking the eye of the man in the moon. Choreographer Raul Parrao beautifully creates
and executes his whimsical tale set to contemporary Mexican music and through dance and strong graphic images, takes viewers
on a ride to remember through 3-D glasses!
